Welcome to our first ever newsletter! We are the Bremer family and we live on a sand and stone hill that we like to call StoneDog Ridge. How did we come about? Keep reading…
We’ve lived on the farm for about 20 years now, but only added goats to our critter menagerie four years ago. Why did we get goats? Like a lot of places in Northern Minnesota, we were losing our battle with the wilderness. Our homestead clearing on top of the hill was getting smaller and smaller and my husband wanted goats to help clear brush, which they do very well! Two years ago, I also learned that my employment situation would be changing – I suddenly needed to figure out “what I wanted to be when I grow up”. I was going to have a LOT of free time on my hands! I had also started milking goats. We quickly learned that you can only drink so much milk and eat so much cheese.
Goat milk soap became my new passion! I loved learning about all the different oils, fragrances, and design elements that go into cold-process soap. And I found myself researching other body care products I could make. In one of those light-bulb moments, I decided to make the farm and goats work for me – StoneDog Ridge came into being!
I hope you’ll come along with me on this journey! We’ll keep you posted on farm happenings, as well as talking about making soap, cheese, and lots of other fun stuff.
